Aschimfarma was created in 1976 to represent companies involved in organic chemistry research and development in Italy. Of primary importance are the pharmaceutical and fine organic chemicals industries. Today the society represents over ninety member organizations and is the world’s largest association of pharmaceutical and chemical technology research leaders. In addition to pure research, many member companies are involved in applying new technology to meet the growing demands of the healthcare industry. Organic chemistry research is an important foundation for advances in other technologies.

Aschimfarma’s key objectives are to provide a forum for the chemical and biotechnology industries and to promote innovation and to help our members to become more competitive players in the international marketplace. The organization plays an important role in fostering technological development and growth within the industry. Aschimfarma performs numerous functions in various regulatory, technology, and research areas. The organization seeks to maintain and promote contacts with national and international leaders in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The organization promotes the interests of its members while establishing collaborations with other associations in related technology fields. Aschimfarma is also deeply involved in public policy issues related to its members’ activities. Issues such as bioethics, genomics, environmental protection, and universal healthcare are of great importance and are addressed frequently at conventions.
